The Link Between Men’s Age and Infertility
Infertility is a problem that affects millions of men and woman in the U.S. every year. Some estimates believe that as many as 15% of couples experience infertility at some point. Finding the cause of the problems can result in a couple spending thousands of dollars over many months and sometimes years. To avoid much of the expense that modern procedures cost, many women try unconventional methods. One of these such methods is acupuncture. Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years by cultures in an attempt to increase the fertility of a woman. And in many circumstances, it seems to work. One thing driving the acupuncture interest is the rising cost of ivf.
Even though researchers can’t explain the reason, women who have used acupuncture in conjunction with other infertility treatments such as in-vitro fertilization, have been more likely to become pregnant than women who have not had acupuncture. This has been confirmed, so far, in at least two different studies.
Acupuncture and Fertility and Men
To date, there haven’t been a lot of studies on men, acupuncture, and infertility. But there’s no proof that infertility for a couple is improved if the man has acupuncture.
One fascinating thing that you’ll find as you peruse the ivf message boards is that often when a couple is having trouble conceiving, it is usually assumed that it’s the fault of the women. But a recent study is making a bit more concrete what many researchers have suspected for a while.
The study reveals that as men get older and reach their mid thirties the odds of their fathering a baby slowly decreases over the years. The study reveals that, on average, as a man reaches the forty year mark, the chances of his partner getting pregnant decreases significantly. And even if and when their partner eventually does conceive, the odds are increased that their partner will have a miscarriage.
The surprise was in just how much effect the male partner’s age had on the ability of his spouse to become pregnant.
