Rustic Decorative Styles

David Artsmith  -  Human beings have a long and storied past. As a species we have survived wars, natural disasters, famine, disease, wild animals, and every imaginable ill that could plague us. Today, in our modern plastic molded lives, we are isolated to some extent from the savagery of the world. We have created a buffer between us and nature. However there is still an undeniable spirit of the primitive that lurks within us, constantly seeking to escape into the actual world.

One way to indulge this primal spirit is in the way you decorate your environment. Not everything in your home has to be stainless steal perfect. The truth is that the introduction of less than perfect elements can personalize a space, giving it an individuality which is not possible with perfect machine processed goods.

The first thing you should do is look into natural materials. The more you surround yourself with nature, the more you will begin to feel the heart song of the earth itself. Look for items manufactured from natural stone, wicker, and hardwood.

Another way to surround your home with nature is to place plants within the environment. This not only connects you with the living world, but it can inject a much needed sense of energy and vitality into a space, causing it to almost breathe with excitement.

Searching out rustic furnishings is another way to placate your primitive spirit. The word "rustic" describes itmes which are simple, and less detailed, with a quaint and functional nature. A rustic piece wont be fancy and gilded, but it will serve a purpose in the most efficient way possible.

Just because the world seeks to separate us from nature doesn’t mean that we have to give in. We can surround ourselves with life and vibrancy, especially in our homes, where we control the environment.

Beverage Coaster Ideas

David Artsmith  -  Coasters are used to protect furnishings. Usually you will find these decorative and functional accessories used in a den, or family room environment. However, there are many places around the home where these useful preventative accessories could come in handy.

First off is the aforementioned living room. In an environment such as this, you really do need a set of beverage coasters. They will save the life of your coffee table, as well as any other flat surfaces that are scattered throughout the space. They are also a way to add beauty, sophistication, and even color to a space, without overwhelming it.

You will also find drink coasters useful in a bedroom setting. Many people like to take a beverage with them into bed at night. Whether it’s a cold glass of water, or a cup of warm milk to help you sleep, a coaster can protect your furnishings in this space.

The kitchen is another place where you might want to consider placing beverage coasters. While most of the surfaces in this space should be impervious to damage from water rings, there may be vulnerable spots throughout the space. Do you have a kitchen table? This may be one place that water damage can creep up. If you have hardwood counters you also may want to consider these accessories as a preventative measure.

The dining room is another great place to use coasters. You can greatly prolong the life of a dining table top if you protect it with these useful accessories. They can also be another added element of beauty and style in your dining table arrangements.

Most people do not think of the outdoors as a place to use coasters. However some furniture, especially wooden pieces, will warp if a wet glass is left on them long enough. While rain may fall on that table all year round it falls randomly over the entire surface. A glass sits in a single place, creating a single noticeable circle.

As you can see drink coasters are for more than just coffee tables. They are useful accessories almost no matter where they are located. If you care about the beauty of your possessions, you may want to consider scattering these useful accessories to a few more locations.

Retirement Homes Set To Improve Their Looks Thanks To Government

There are so many retirement homes to choose from these days and you can find them in all corners of the country. A great deal of these are private homes, but there are lots that rely wholly on funding from the government as well. An impartial organization called The Care Trust have criticised the government-run homes however saying that the quality and standard of a majority of them was not up to scratch and needed attention.

Very recently the government has announced that they will increase their budget on retirement homes by 10% over the next 5 years. The money will be spent on getting new painted furniture into the homes and improving the overall interior design and decorations to both modernise and brighten up the buildings.

Alistair Pride of The Care Trust was quick to point out that they did not have an issue with the cleanliness of the retirement homes. “We were actually very pleased with the overall cleanliness standard that was being maintained” noted Pride. “We were more concerned that not enough money or effort was being made on making these places look nice”.Everybody has the right to live in a nice environment and seeing as people in these homes cannot make the changes themselves, people have to take the initiative. He continued to say that they were very happy that the government had listened to their recommendations and they look forward to seeing the improvements.

Special designer teams are going to be set up by the government to oversea all the changes and expenses. “The money could have been handed over to homes directly, but this way we can have experts on the case and improving with each project” suggested a government spokesman. These teams will visit the homes over the next 5 years and bring in new furniture like dining furniture. They will also be implementing colour schemes into the buildings and replacing old and decrepit items with new pieces such as white wardrobes and dining chairs.
