Your question is welcome and many people do not understand how many options are there for selecting engagement rings. Most people look to the basics because they normally only have one choice.

Just because a couple is thrifty and desires to save money to be invested elsewhere in their marriage, it doesn’t mean that the choice of an engagement ring need be humdrum.  Thinking outside the traditional can often mean finding a ring that will introduce symbolism into their special relationship, romance and even something novel that will be the envy of their friends.

Cubic Zirconium is the most preferred and known substitute for  diamond, though it  weights more and looks duller than a pure diamond and may even wane in color with usage. That is the single, most popular diamond substitute today and it is beautiful to wear.

Moissanite is a stone that is produced in a laboratory. It is patterned after a crystal located in the center of a meteorite and is an excellent choice, despite costing somewhat more than stones of cubic zirconium. The stone is twice as brilliant and slightly harder than diamond. (one thing that adds to its beauty but may lead to discovery by some who prefer the muted fire of a diamond stone), and refracts lightness somewhat differently, directing whatever group to find that it has a sick chromatic color. Moissanite has its good and bad points, but it just depends on what you like.

For the last century, white sapphires have been used as an alternative for diamonds. The white sapphire is a beautiful stone in itself and the beauty of it is it can be cut just like a diamond but one must be aware that it is softer and less durable.

The only limits to considering a stone that is outside the diamond look-alike field are those you set yourself. Stones such as rubies, sapphires, jade are used a substances because of there strength and hardness. These elements are good to consider because the ring will be worn for a long period of time.

Selecting a color that goes well with many other colors is a good choice. Aside from this, the whole vista of gems is available.  How about looking at a star sapphire or ruby, another choice of carborundum, as possible choices. Naturally. This is a gorgeous variation in comparison to a faceted diamond stone. Is not the idea of a solid gold mounting studded with a carved jade fascinating? It lasts a long time and comes in a variety of colors.

The varieties an engagement ring can offer go beyond your imaginary powers. This ring is a symbol of the love you have. You may want to start discussing the many choices open to you if either of you thinks that you could spend the money more wisely, or “oh, blah, diamond.”
